Heuchera 'Color Dream' x 3 large plugs
I consider Heuchera a plant that we need to take a step back on to better understand them in gardens. Over the last 30-years there have been hundreds of cultivated varieties made available. Unfortunately that hasn't been a good thing. Many of the varieties that had incredible colors and tones didn't perform well in gardens. So if you've tried some of those it's time to try again with better varieties.
One of the keys to Heuchera doing well in areas where it gets hot and humid is for them to have Heuchera villosa in their breeding. Heuchera villosa, hairy alumroot, grows natively in the North America even in hot areas like Georgia. When I'm adding Heuchera to offer for sale I always look for that Heuchera villosa in their breeding or I have trialed them here at Natchez Glen or somewhere I value their expert opinion.
