A Letter to New Gardeners: Embracing the Journey

Dear New Gardener,

Welcome to the wonderful world of gardening! I'm thrilled to hear that you've decided to take up this rewarding hobby. As someone who has been gardening for many years, I can tell you that it's a journey full of surprises, discovery of self, and endless joy.

Gardening has been a constant source of inspiration and comfort for me throughout my life. It has taught me to slow down and appreciate the small things, to be patient and persistent, and to take pleasure in the process as much as in the result.

As a new gardener, you may feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information out there. There are so many plants to choose from, so many techniques to learn, and so many opinions on what works best. My advice to you is to start small and stay curious.

Pick a few plants that speak to you and learn everything you can about them. Start with plants that inspire your spirit and mind. Don't be afraid to experiment and make mistakes – that's how we learn and grow.

And remember, gardening is not just about the plants. It's about creating a space that reflects your personality, your values, and your dreams. It's about connecting with nature and with yourself, and finding a sense of peace and purpose in the midst of a hectic world.

Discovering the space you garden in is a crucial step in the process. For me, it was discovering that Natchez Glen House was naturally a meadow that served as inspiration for the peony meadow I've created. By understanding the natural environment and the conditions of the space you're working with, you can make informed choices about which plants will thrive and which won't. This is an important lesson to keep in mind, as every garden is unique and requires its own tailored approach. By embracing the natural features of your garden and working with them, you can create a truly beautiful and sustainable space.

I believe that gardening is an art form that requires both skill and passion. That's why we offer a wide selection of high-quality plants and resources here on the website to help you on your journey. From the vibrant Coral Charm peony to the delicate Gardenia, our collection is designed to inspire and delight.

As I mentioned earlier, peonies are an excellent choice for beginning gardeners, and I have decided to start offering them because I truly believe in the inspiration they can provide. Not only are they beautiful and reliable, but they can also teach us so much about patience and perseverance in the garden. If you are just starting out, consider planting a few peonies to enjoy this season, and you can slowly build a garden for them in the future. They will be waiting for you, ready to bloom and inspire you year after year.

So welcome again, new gardener. I look forward to sharing this journey with you, and to seeing the beauty you create in your own world.

Yours in gardening,

Steve, Creator of NGH
