Natchez Glen Garden Club – A Monthly Live Garden Experience

Welcome to the Natchez Glen Garden Club—a new way to learn about gardening that flows with the seasons, straight from the garden beds of Natchez Glen.

Each month, you'll join Steve Mydelski—nurseryman, garden designer, and the creator of Natchez Glen—for a live online workshop that follows what's actually happening in the gardens. These are not pre-recorded tutorials or generic how-tos. They are real-time, rooted in what’s blooming, budding, or being planted here, guided by over two decades of hands-on experience.

Your membership gives you:

  • Live Zoom sessions each month (60–75 minutes)

  • Access to replays if you can’t attend live

  • A connection to a seasonal rhythm of gardening

  • Insight, strategy, and design thinking you can apply to your own garden

  • Occasional bonus Q&A sessions and practical design walkthroughs

Here’s What We’ll Explore Through the Seasons:

Iris – The Architectural Spark of Spring

Irises at Natchez Glen aren’t just an early-season delight—they’re textural punctuation. We’ll look at how to integrate bearded irises into mixed perennial beds, how to balance their fleeting bloom time with longer-season companions, and the importance of foliage management after bloom. You’ll learn:

  • Dividing and replanting strategies

  • Iris as both a color and structural design tool

  • What the plant tells you about soil health and drainage

Peonies – The Living Sculpture of May

With thousands of peonies grown here each year, Steve brings unmatched depth to this topic. These sessions will go beyond variety discussion into:

  • Understanding peony root systems and planting depth

  • How bloom timing varies by type and cultivar

  • How to design with peonies so they anchor—not overwhelm—a perennial garden

  • Season-long peony care, from early staking to cutting and cleanup

Phlox – More Than a Backdrop

Too often used as filler, Phlox paniculata and other cultivars are showstoppers when placed with intent. You’ll learn:

  • How to avoid powdery mildew (the real way—not just the internet advice)

  • Why staking technique matters to show their vertical structure

  • Cultivar selection for bloom sequence and design layering

  • Companion planting strategies that emphasize their height and color

Native Summer Perennials – The Workhorses and the Poets

This is where the garden starts to hum with motion and ecological value. From Eutrochium and Pycnanthemum to Symphyotrichum and Monarda, we’ll talk about:

  • Native planting not as trend, but as design intelligence

  • Why fibrous root systems matter for drought and erosion control

  • How to create rhythm and texture across long summer spans

  • The subtle differences between “wild” and “well-placed”

Asters & Fall Perennials – The Season’s Grand Finale

This isn’t a postscript to the garden—it’s the emotional finish. Steve will show you how to:

  • Plan for autumn while planting in spring

  • Use asters, solidago, and late-season grasses as architectural memory

  • Maintain energy in your garden through light, movement, and form

  • Design with fade-out color palettes and pollinator interest in mind

Why Join Now?

  • You want a real relationship with plants—not just random tips from social media.

  • You want to hear from someone who’s planted tens of thousands of perennials, not just three.

  • You want to bring intention and beauty into your own garden, season by season.

This isn’t influencer gardening. It’s a monthly opportunity to walk alongside a working garden designer, to watch plants in real time, and to see what experience actually looks like in bloom.

Whether you join live or catch the replay, this club is about growing better by watching closely.
